Remington Model 95 Double Barrel Derringer Pistol: 5) Remington Over-Under Double Derringer, also known as the Model 95 Remington Derringer. One of the most iconic pocket hide-out weapons in American history, the Remington Double Derringer was chambered for the short . 41 Rim Fire cartridge and manufactured from 1866-1935. All had 3ó round superposed barrels that tip upward for loading or extraction of fired cases. The barrels were locked in place for firing by a rotating lever on the right side of the frame. The firing pin alternated from top barrel t bottom barrel automatically. Designed by innovative firearms inventor William H. Elliot, the Double Derringer became the best and most widely known and recognized of American cartridge derringers of the latter half of the twentieth century. That this distinctive firearm was made for 69 years speaks well of its exceptional quality and compact design that found favor with men and women on both sides of the law. It is known that General Douglas Macarthur was carrying a Remington Double Derringer when he returned to the Philippine Islands during World War II. This example that was made c. 1890s exhibits fine aged blue and fine original Remington checkered hard rubber grips. The barrel top is stamped with the correct Remington Arms Co. Ilion, N. Y. markings. The barrels lock firmly and the hinge is tight. A popular collectoró»s handgun made even more so by its use in numerous movies and television shows. John Wayne pulled a Remington . 41 caliber Over-Under Double Derringer and shoots a highwaymanó attempting to rob him in the opening scene of the classic movie The Shootist. A popular model with collectors, the Remington Model 95 is becoming more scarce and difficult to obtain. The pistol qualifies as an Antique Handgun, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check. Serial Number: NSN. Stevens No. 41 Tip-Up Derringer Pistol c 1864-1916: Stevens No. 41 Tip-Up derringer single shot pistol, serial number 23758. These distinctive . 22 caliber “hide-out” pistols were made from 1864-1916. They found favor with anyone feeling the need for a small, easily concealable handgun. Often they were chosen as “back-up” firearms that could be easily carried and pulled into use should a primary, larger weapon become unserviceable or taken away. With its 3 ½” barrel, overall length of only 6 ½ inches and weight of merely a few ounces, the Stevens No. 41 derringer could be carried in any number of places by both male or female owners without feeling encumbered with a heavy weapon. This pistol is a later example, being manufactured just after the turn of the last century. The half-octagon barrel retains thinning original blue that has aged nicely with no evidence of cleaning or abuse. The entire frame and grip straps are factory nickel plated giving this pistol an attractive two-tone fancy appearance. The walnut grips fit perfectly and are in superb condition. The barrel to frame fit is extremely tight with no looseness or play. Additionally, the hammer spring is strong and the safety notch or “half-cock” holds solidly- many of these are worn and loose in these areas. The barrel top is clearly marked J STEVENS A & T CO. over CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. U. S. A. A uniquely American derringer pistol from a time when it was common for men and women on both sides of the law to carry a small and light derringer pistol as an ordinary part of their daily apparel. This is a fine example of a scarce and historical weapon. Condition For a complete representation of condition and for additional images please call 800-686-4216.
