NEEDLEPOINT CARPET OF DENBY FARMLined, fitted with a label 'Mrs. Joseph V. Reed, Round Room Needlepoint Carpet'.
12 ft. 3 in. x 12 ft. 5 in.
Note: This carpet was created in the 1950's by Permelia Pryor Reed and her husband Joseph V. Reed, Sr. who lived at Denbigh Farm in Greenwich, CT. The Reeds moved to Denbigh Farm in 1930 and built the big living room, round room, solarium, flower room and a master suite to support their growing family. Together with their decorator Polly Jessup they created and needle-worked this carpet the circular medallions to represent the various sections of the farm and out buildings of the celebrated property. It shows the main house, stables, pool and rose garden and a linden alley, a variety of the fruits, flowers and vegetables grown on the farm, along with another out building, and centered by a fruit-filled woven basket. The Reeds were known for their love of needlework and would often work on joint projects together before their busy social engagements. Mr. Reed was the attaché to Amory Houghton and Douglas Dillon at the US Embassy in Paris, and the Reeds were founders of the famed Jupiter Island Club in Hobe Sound, Florida.
