FINE AND RARE FRENCH DROCOURT ROCOCO GILT BRONZE & PORCELAIN CARRIAGE CLOCK WITH REPEATER RETAILED BY TIFFANY & CO NEW YORK.Mid-19th century, France. With the mark of Pierre and Alfred Drocourt impressed on the backplate. The gilt case deeply cast and chased with scrolls and flowers and a putto on each corner, the crest with two putti at front and rear centering a Sevres style plaque decorated with two putti beneath a fixed cast carrying handle supported by intertwined cornucopia. The clock sides each with Sevres style painted panels depicting two young women with putti in classical dress within sky blue and gilt borders. The repeater and alarm mechanism controlled by the button protruding from the top of the case. Case fitted with a front and rear glass panel surmounted by a cast bronze grip with which to remove the rear panel to gain access to the movement. The enamel dial with Roman numeral chapter ring above a sub alarm dial. Additionally marked with the name "Tiffany & Co./ New - York". The brass movement marked with serial number "18406", as is the bottom cover and plate, and impressed with Drocourt maker's mark as previously noted. Rear of plate also fitted with two winding arbors, one arbor for adjusting hands and one arbor for alarm. The clock striking on a gong with two hammers. The case terminating in scrolled feet centering a small oval Sevres style plaque on each side. SIZE: Dial: 2-1/2" d. Case: 9-1/2" h x 5-1/2" w x 5" d. CONDITION: Case in very fine condition. One porcelain plaque with professionally restored hairline crack. Dial very good. Movement appears clean and with no observed alternation or restoration. 52281-1
