A Carved Wood Folk Art Venetian Boat A large carved painted and assembled wood Venetian gondola apprx. 31-1/2"L x 8"W x 11-1/4"H with a snake for a figurehead grape clusters and flowers applied applied to the prow behind which stands the figure of a jester lifting a rope that is attached to an anchor tied to the side. Behind the jester is a large open compartment that contains a metal container with two hinged handles that appears to have been used as a planter. Four turned posts flank the compartment. Next is a cabin with glass panels in the top and sides in which are seated several figures imbibing at a table and at the stern is a group of three figures attending a larger figure in a frock coat. The stern is carved with "LB 1819" and is flanked with female figures and flowers. The underside of the boat is supported by a small turned wood element shaped like an acorn and a metal ball and claw foot on the opposite side back has a pair of lions holding a shield. A truly unique piece of folk art.

The set includes a 54'' claw foot single pedestal round TABLE with five 9'' leaves that extend to 99''l. Set of 6 CHAIRS, one with arms. The bow front CHINA CABINET has serpentine glass sides, the single door has a curved front, overhanging top, original shelves with plate grooves, 66 1/2''h. x 60''w. x 20'' deep overall. The SIDEBOARD has a straight top with beveled mirror backsplash, 59''h. x 72''l, x 27'' deep. Excellent example of American oak furniture. The table bears a Hastings label however no signature found on either the china cabinet or sideboard although they came out of the same house and are every bit of Hastings quality.CONDITION: Wear consistent with age and everyday use.

Includes one (1) wirework oval footed basket with braided handle and pierced medallion border, beaded upper and lower rims; one (1) oval footed centerpiece with repousse Baroque style decoration of cherubs, flowers, scrolls, and masks; one (1 ) oval dish with cobalt glass insert, pierced sides, wire twist handles, and ball and claw feet; one (1) boat shaped dish or bread basket with pierced sides; one (1) collapsible toast rack; and one (1 )pair close plated grape shears, marked for A. Hatfield, c. 1808, Sheffield workshop. Sizes range from 7" (wick trimmers) to 8 1/2"H x 11"W x 8"D (centerpiece) and 11"h x 13"W x 9"D (basket, with handle up). Most/all items appear to be British, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century.

Condition:
Centerpiece, cobalt lined dish and small boat shaped basket exhibit wear to some edges, showing pink. Repair to one ball foot on toast rack; small oval lidded dish is monogrammed and the cobalt liner does not come out. Otherwise all items good condition with a few minor scattered dents and scratches.
