Bremo Plantation was a tranquil, but industrious center in which Cocke cultivated not only experimental farming practices, but a keen interest in social reform, religion, education, and architecture as well. An agricultural innovator, Cocke helped found the Agricultural Society of Albemarle and published numerous essays in Cultivator and the Southern Planter.
