Chinoiserie Mounted Mantel Set, 19th c., porcelain and gilt bronze, the globular clock with an eight day French movement made by "JAPY FRERES." The highly decorative and ornate set features a porcelain clock case, having a gilt enamel scene of waterfowl flying over a pond, the numerals of the clock represented by appropriate Chinese characters, is suspended by means of an applied dragon handle form a bamboo decorated frame, the whole guarded by two male foo dogs. The asymmetrical candelabra, each surmounted by a full bodied foo dog, the standards with conforming gilt porcelain design, the candle cups supported by prunus branches, raised on double footed bases.One porcelain shaft with an area of loss and chips, the other with two areas of loss, repaired break to rear left shaft of the clock's supporting frame.Clock 15.5" x 9.5" x 6.5"; Candle: 16.25"
