- FULL LENGHT TERRACOTTA GODDESS SCULPTURE,
FULL LENGHT TERRACOTTA GODDESS SCULPTURE, CA. 1890'Flora', the Roman Goddess of Spring, after a work by René Frémin (1672-1744). A remarkable 19th century full length classical figure of timeless beauty, sensitively rendered in terracotta with fine proportions, posed in a graceful stance atop a naturalistic modelled ground, areas of minor conservation, losses and surface abrasions noted. Height of figure, 60" (5 feet tall), mounted atop an associated plinth base measuring 18.25". Continental, circa 1890. During the reign of Louis XIV or the Great Sun King (1643 to 1715), René Frémin was awarded the title of Sculptor to the King, and in 1709 was commissioned to create the original of this work as well as other allegorical figures to be installed at the Parc De Marly at Château de Malmaison.
