Serial # 17105 This is an early L.C. Smith Syracuse twist steel double barreled shotgun with exposed hammers chambered for the 12 gauge shot shell. Features 32" barrels, matted rib, single site bead, fine bores, (needs cleaning), all matching numbers, no ejectors. The barrels are basically smooth brown patina. No visible dents. The action is also smooth brown patina. Walnut stocks are very good with ebony tip, worn checkering, no cracks or chips. Original butt plate with a 14 - 1/8" LOP to front trigger. Fine early side-by-side.

Barrel retains approximately 80% original factory blue starting to thin. Frame has basically silvered out with traces of case colors. Walnut stocks are very good with no cracks, and some later added finish. 13-3/4" LOP from front trigger to plastic buttplate. Gun manufactured in 1909. Lock up extremely tight. Mirror bores. Very nice, tight early Smith.

L. C. Smith 00 Grade 12 Gauge SxS Shotgun: Included in this lot is a L. C. Smith/ Hunter Arms 12 Gauge side by side shotgun. Their 1900 catalog stated that the 00 Grade shotgun as a: "A thoroughly reliable gun at a price within the reach of all. The new Armour Steel barrels are plain, but will stand the severest strain of nitro powder. English walnut stock; half pistol grip; checkered and well finished. " From 1898 to 1914, 57, 096 were manufactured. This number nearly equals the total number of all of the other grades produced during this period. The No. 00 was available with Armour Steel barrels only. The lock are stamped "L. C. Smith". The top of the right barrel is marked: HUNTER ARMS CO. -MAKERS-FULTON, N. Y. This shot gun features automatic ejectors which were only placed in 6, 308 shotguns. Like all Smiths, this shotgun has a straight grain walnut checkered grip and fore grip. The standard gun was priced at $37 in 1898 and $32 in 1912. Automatic ejectors added about $13 to the price. Matching Serial Number: 323211. L. C. Smith Field Grade 12 Gauge SxS Shotgun: Included in this lot is a L. C. Field Grade 12 gauge side by side shotgun. The Field Grade production began in 1912. The 1913 catalog said: "This gun is especially designed for those requiring an affordable, sound and plainly finished weapon. It is particularly useful for field and marsh where rough usage is required. The shooting powers of this gun can be relied upon to be fully equal to those of the higher grades. " Field Grade production totaled 199, 384 accounting for 82% of the total production of L. C. Smith side lock shotguns during the period of 1912 to 1950. The price in 1913 was $25. A Hunter-One Trigger brought the price up to $45. A gun with ejectors sold for $35, and one with ejectors and the Hunter One-Trigger retailed for $55. It was available in 12, 16, and 20 gauge and later in . 410. The fore grip and stock is American walnut. L. C. SMITH is stamped on the case hardened lock plate. The right barrel is roll-stamped "L. C SMITH FIELD GRADE" and the left barrel is marked "THE HUNTER ARMS CO. FULTON, N. Y, U. S. A. " The factory blue'd barrels measure 30" with a cylinder and full choke. Serial Number: R85466. L. C. Smith Hunter Arms 12 Ga Double Barrel Shotgun: Featured in this lot is a L. C. Smith Hunter Arms 12 gage side by side double barrel shotgun. This firearm utilizes two 30" steel barrels chambered in 12 gauge. The barrels are fully ribbed and are marked on the top “L. C. Smith Ideal Grade Hunter Arms Co. Inc MFRS Fulton, N. Y. USA". The shotgun features a walnut fore stock and pistol butt stock. The checkering has faded, but the lines are still evident. The receiver shows a well done floral engraving in good condition. The receiver itself shows a nice gray patina. Serial Number: 111908. This firearm qualifies as an Antique and does NOT require an FFL transfer or NICS Background.
